Bishop Rice Appointed to Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese

On Tuesday, April 26, Pope Francis announced the appointment of Most Reverend Edward M. Rice, Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis, as Bishop of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese.

Bishop Edward Rice

“I see the hand of God in this appointment. His loving Providence has brought me to this moment and I rely on that same loving Providence to assist me as I strive to walk in the way of Christ, the Good Shepherd, who will continue to guide my way if I but seek to do His will,” Bishop Rice said in a statement published by the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.

Bishop Edward M. Rice, Class of 1987, served the seminary as Vice Rector of Cardinal Glennon College and is a current member of the Board of Trustees. Though we will miss his presence in the St. Louis community, we understand his call to serve the greater Church shepherding the people of Springfield-Cape Girardeau.

Please join the seminary community in congratulating Bishop Rice and praying for him as he accepts this new appointment.
