Bishop-Elect Lawrence Sydney Nicasio, Class of 1989

Congratulations to Bishop-Elect Lawrence Sydney Nicasio, Class of 1989, elevated by the Holy Father Pope Francis as Bishop of Belize City-Belmopan. Bishop-Elect Nicasio holds a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Cardinal Glennon College (1985) and a Master of Divinity from Kenrick School of Theology (1989). Since ordination in 1989, Bishop-Elect Nicasio has served in numerous parishes of the diocese, as parish vicar of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in Belmopan, and as president of the Diocesan Priest Association. He succeeds Bishop Dorick McGowan Wright.

Deacon Evaristus Ucheonye, Theology IV, is one of four Kenrick seminarians currently from the Belize-Belmopan diocese. He shared, “I was very pleased when I heard about the appointment of the new Bishop for the Diocese of Belize City and Belmopan. May the good Lord through His infinite mercy lead and protect our new Bishop as he begins to lead the flock our Lord has entrusted under his care. It is my pleasure to say big congratulations to you Bishop and to my people of Belize as well.”

Here, Bishop-Elect Nicasio is pictured celebrating his 25th Jubilee at the 2014 Alumni Day with a reflection in the (pre-renovation) Chapel of St. Joseph.
