Parents’ Perspective

By Norm and Linda Ritter, Parents of Tony Ritter, Theology III – St. Louis

Tony’s seminary journey started when he was in 4th grade by answering that he wanted to become a priest when he grew up.  He was a considerate and caring boy and as his parents, we thought that the priesthood might be a fit. We encouraged him, however, to be whoever God wanted him to be.  Tony attended several Kenrick Glennon Days and Come & See weekends at the seminary.  There, he had a great time and developed relationships with some of the seminarians – and a deeper relationship with Jesus.  At home, we would get into religious discussions as a family. Whenever there were questions that couldn’t be answered, Tony would text Fr. Ryan Weber, a seminarian at the time, and would receive prompt, thoughtful answers.

Summer Ministry: Donald Morris

“Greetings! This summer I’ve had the great privilege of working as a Student Chaplain at Mercy Hospital Saint Louis. The program I participated in was six weeks long and was supervised by Sister Janet Crane, SSND. Many days at the hospital I would spend the morning bringing Catholic patients Holy Communion and visiting with them. In the afternoons I would often visit patients to inform them of the services Pastoral Care offers at Mercy or just be there to listen to their life struggles. When thinking about this opportunity, Pope Francis’ exhortation to priests to “smell like the sheep” often comes to mind. I found myself being invited into the messiness of people’s lives…click here to read more.”
