Cardinal Glennon College comprises the first two stages of seminary formation—Propaedeutic Stage and Discipleship Stage—as laid out by the Program of Priestly Formation, Sixth Edition. Thus, the program of formation at Cardinal Glennon College progresses year to year: Propaedeutic I, Propaedeutic II, Discipleship I, Discipleship II. These initial stages of priestly formation prepare the seminarian for the study of theology and the more intense experience of priestly formation in the Configuration Stage (cf. PPF6, nos. 118-134).
The Propaedeutic Stage at Cardinal Glennon College is integrated into the regular four-year college seminary program. In particular, the first two years of college seminary (i.e., freshman and sophomore year) comprise the Propaedeutic Stage (cf. PPF6, no. 131, b, ii). The Propaedeutic Stage at Cardinal Glennon College is truly distinct in its formational aspects (e.g., seminars, studies, schedule, etc.), without being separate from the wider college community. During these years, the college seminarian, with the assistance of the Propaedeutic Formator, receives more intentional and focused formation, so as to meet the goals outlined in the Program of Priestly Formation.
The Discipleship Stage at Cardinal Glennon College comprises the final two years of the college seminary formation program (i.e., junior and senior year). During these years, the college seminarian, building on the foundation of the Propaedeutic Stage, engages the study of philosophy and more intentionally discerns the call to the priesthood, all within the context of growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
